MINCE PIES AT ROSS'S

16:00:00

I guess this is my first blog post about my PhD journey, and I'll kick off by writing about our little hi tea at my supervisor's house, located in a small village in Goole. So Ross had invited us (his PhD students and families) to his house for some mince pies and coffee for a bit of a 'social do' before the Christmas holiday. It was a nice intimate chit chat time between us colleagues in his little cottage house, where he's got this little animal kingdom! - like seriously, there were many farm animals (just small ones though) inside and outside of the house. We enjoyed the casual and relaxed ambience and it was a nice way to get to each other and their families better.

The mince pies - pretty misleading name (we actually thought it was meat pies, haha), but it's actually pies stuffed with dried fruits and spices! Traditional English sweet pies usually served during the festive season.

It started off with a bit of a fuss about us getting on the wrong train and all (it took about 1-hour train ride from Sheffield to Goole), but we found our way safely and Ross picked us up at the train station.

Started the journey out from Sheffield with my PhD colleagues (and Fizal of course).

The dessert table of various sorts.

One happy man.

One of our friend even brought some kebab for us to snack on, and frankly speaking, they were one of the best kebabs I've ever had!

Delicious! Thank God these were from Sheffield so I can get some whenever I crave for them again!

With my fellow Indonesian friend :)

Ross brewing some coffee.

His pupils listening intently to the history of kilts, haha - since he's a Scottish.

It's moments like these that we treasure while we're living abroad - learning our way through other's cultures and traditions and learning lots of new things. :)
A big thanks to Ross for having us!
