FRUITS & FUN!

15:38:00

We’ve been planning this trip for weeks and we’ve finally had the time to rent a car, drove down to Nottinghamshire to Goacher’s fruit farm for some fruit picking. Goacher’s farm offers various fruits such as apples and pears, plums and cherries and other types of berries (see here for more). It’s a pity when we arrived, there weren’t that many strawberries anymore. A lot have gone bad and are small in size, so we had to really search through the bushes to find good, big ones. Was it worth all the scratches we got from all the weed around the bush? Hell yeah. It was so satisfying when we finally found really sweet and juicy ones after only seeing small, unripe strawberries.

After strawberries, we went to nearby raspberries plants and picked some of those. Fizal and I aren’t very keen on raspberries, so we only picked a small handful. Finally, we then made our way to the cherries orchard, which was just minutes walk from the berries farm. It was my first time cherry picking and it was a great experience! When we first arrived in the orchard, a lot of the cherries have either turned bad too or high up where we can’t reach them. We kept wandering and searching around with our empty punnets, until we found this one row at the end, (next to apple trees) and there they were! Lots of ripe and delicious looking cherries everywhere - and reachable too! We went crazy with the cherries and picked almost a basket full! We had to contain ourselves and lead ourselves out before our punnets were full and have to pay generous amounts of £££ just for cherries.

After that, we also went looking for some poppy fields but couldn’t find any. We went to a couple of spots based on some photography reviews and online forums only to find empty fields of green, not red. We then took a short stop at Clumber Park for a picnic and it was a nice relaxing picnic, in a secluded area, by the lake, under the shade… (wait there’s more) – with pretty swans in our view! The day couldn’t get any better; it was a great fun with great company. The perfect way to spend a Saturday! Go find a Pick Your Own Farm near you now and spend a nice summer weekend for some fruits fun with friends & family!

Until then!
