BE BRIGHT AS A SUNFLOWER, WITH THE SCENT OF A LAVENDER

13:15:00

There's definitely something about me and vast flower fields... I just can't get enough of them! There's the confetti flower field in Worchestershire, and then there's also field of poppies that I really wanna go... it's never gonna end is it? This time, we made an impromptu trip to Hitchin Lavender. We booked a car online 2 days before we picked it up from Enterprise Rent-A-Car on a Friday afternoon. Early day Saturday - we set off at 6:45am in the morning heading south to Ickeford, a village just on the outskirt of Hitchin early morning on Saturday. The drive was 2.5hours from Sheffield. When we reached Hitchin Lavender just before 10am, there were already quite a number of cars and visitors that were already there, and the farm opens at 10am!

We bought our tickets at the cafe, £5.00 per adult and at the entrance of the field, we were given a paper bag and a scissor to cut some lavender. Sunflowers cost 50p each. As we entered the field, there it was, the hype of the season, the talk of the town, the vast field of lavender spreading as far as the eyes can see. It was so beautiful, and the weather played along nicely (but forecast shows it'll rain heavily shortly though).

We then walked to the sunflower field before rain starts to pour so we could get a little sunshine in our photos. Unfortunately, the sunflowers were not looking very good. Most were drooping and leaves beginning to shrivel. We came in early August, so if you're planning to go, bear this in mind (best time probably in mid July).  We did have some fun talking deep into the plantation and have photos of our heads taken though, haha. Not long after that, it started to rain, and then heavily, up to the point everybody was running to find shelter leaving the fields of lavender and sunflowers empty. But oh well, at least we got a few shots!

I would definitely recommend Hitchin Lavender fields to you nature lovers out there, photographers, flowers enthusiasts, and just anyone who gets bored not knowing what to do on weekends! haha. I think most importantly is the experience. You get to pick your lavender, bring them home and put them in your vase and have your home smelling heavenly for a few days!
